Rot Beneath is a two-level design that does what great political art has always done — shows you something familiar from a new angle and makes it impossible to unsee. A gleaming city skyline floats across the top of the composition, clean and impressive, the kind of view from a rooftop bar that makes you feel like the world is working. Below it, holding it up, is an American flag in full decay — melting, disintegrating, bleeding into a skull drenched in red that drips down and keeps going. The city is real. So is what's beneath it.

The composition is deliberate and precise. The skyline sits like a crown above the flag, which wraps around the skull like skin wrapping bone, stars and stripes visible even as they dissolve. The red drip runs heavy and uninterrupted from the flag through the skull to the bottom of the image. Nothing is hidden. Nothing is subtle. That's the point.
